I think rabbits are one of my favorite homestead animal. We have been raising them for a year now. Originally started with rex. Now we have rex, mini lop, & dutch. This will be out first winter breeding the dutch. I am very excited to see what we get.

Do yall have rabbits? Which breed is your favorite to breed?

We have raised rabbits in the past. We sold what gave ours to our grand daughter because she was in love with them and it was too much for us take care of in addition to our other animals. But they are fun to raise

I can understand that! When I go out to feed my animals, that rabbits definitely take a while. But some of my time is spent admiring them lol. Plus grooming them takes a while as well.

We are currently raising New Zealand broken black for meat and for show. We also have a meat pen of Californians for the up coming livestock show in January. After the show we will be offing both breeds out for sale at curtain times.

Lol you just answered my question from the 4h here. You can disregard it there lol. I've read New Zealand is a good meat rabbit. Played with the idea of getting into meat rabbits but not ready to dive in just yet.

Meat rabbits are nice but you definitely need to make sure you have an outlet for them because we don't eat enough rabbit to keep them breed. I f you have to many they are just an expense and not an asset.

You speak the truth. They can absolutely become too of an over head if not bred properly

We track all our breedings, we breed according to our freezer needs and upcoming events to fill other people’s needs. No unnecessary breeding.
